10 Things for Your Family to Do Together This Weekend
Feel like you're stuck inside? Now is a good time to get outside with your family, while practicing social distancing or enjoy quality time at home.
“If your family has been cooped up indoors, the weekend is an opportunity to find creative and productive ways to spend time together,” said Jennifer Smith, LCSW, LCAS at UNC Psychiatry at Goldsboro. “The COVID-19 pandemic has been tough on everyone. Making good use of the time we have together is great for your mental health and your relationships.”
Here are some relaxing activities you can enjoy with your family this weekend.
- Take a nature walk in your neighborhood or visit a local park. All playground areas, fields and courts and a handful of local parks are currently closed, but you can visit Goldsboro Park & Rec to find out if your area park is open.
- Join your children outside for a game of hide and seek, kick the can or a scavenger hunt around the neighborhood. Make it creative by drawing pictures with sidewalk chalk….and remember to practice social distancing.
- Hold a family game or movie night. Make it extra fun by popping popcorn and enjoy a few sweet treats.
- Have a local library card? Wayne County Public Library is offering Curbside Library pick up, online story time and a wealth of online resources.
- Try a new recipe, or make dinner as a family. Find recipes and tips for cooking with children safely at Cooking with Kids.
- Can’t get to the gym? Try an online workout or virtual yoga from UNC Wellness. Or get the family together to make up your own workout or dance routines.
- Give everyone a task, turn on some music and get a jump on spring cleaning.
- Camp outside, star gaze or have a picnic in your backyard.
- Wish you were at the spa? Take a bubble bath, follow it up with an at-home manicure or pedicure and practice gratitude.
