Associate Chaplain Volunteer Program

Associate Chaplains are area clergy who volunteer at UNC Health Wayne and receive special training from the Pastoral Care Department to provide spiritual care to patients and their families. Associate Chaplains commit to at least one to three days a month of visitation and on-call coverage for the department. Clergy who are interested in the program must complete an application before consideration for an interview. An application can be submitted online or by mail. All clergy selected for the program must complete Hospital and Pastoral Care Department orientation before service as a volunteer chaplain.

Anyone who wishes to serve as an Associate Chaplain must have ordination/license or endorsement by his or her faith group or be enrolled in religious or theological studies in an accredited college or school of theological studies or have life experience in a ministry setting and/or specialized training for ministry, (e.g., those who have one or more units of CPE – Clinical Pastoral Education).
