Fluoroscopy
Fluoroscopy shows the inside of your body in real time. At UNC Health Wayne in Goldsboro, you’ll benefit from technologists and doctors skilled in using this technology to diagnose or treat your condition.
Why Do I Need Fluoroscopy?
Your doctor may use fluoroscopy to watch movement inside your body or guide tiny medical tools during a procedure such as:
- Barium swallow study
- Hysterosalpingogram
- Joint X-ray
- Upper gastrointestinal (UGI) series
How to Prepare
After scheduling your appointment, you’ll receive instructions on how to get ready for your specific test. You may need to:
- Avoid food or drink for a certain time period
- Bring a list of your medications and dosages
- Let your doctor know if you’re pregnant or breastfeeding
- Tell the technologist if you have any allergies
What to Expect
You may need to swallow or receive an injection of a small amount of contrast dye to make part of your body show up better on the fluoroscopy machine. Your care team will move you into position on the fluoroscopy table for the procedure.
Results
We’ll send a report with your results to the doctor who ordered fluoroscopy. Expect a call from your doctor’s office to discuss the results and next steps.
