UNC Health Wayne is one of just three Eastern North Carolina hospitals with 5 A's in patient safety and a 4 Star CMS Rating

UNC Health Wayne is proud to announce that it has received the North Carolina Maternity Center Breastfeeding-Friendly Designation from the North Carolina Division of Public Health. Additionally, this recognition has designated UNC Health Wayne with 3 stars for their efforts in implementing policies and practices that support a breastfeeding-friendly environment for patients. The designation is based on the World Health Organization’s Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding.

UNC Health Wayne underwent a rigorous, unannounced onsite review where a team of Joint Commission reviewers evaluated compliance with related certification standards including program management, supporting self-management, and delivering and facilitating clinical care. Joint Commission standards are developed in consultation with health care experts and providers, measurement experts and patients. The reviewers also conducted onsite observations and interviews.

This prestigious recognition marks a significant leap for UNC Health Wayne, elevating its previous two-star status to a distinguished four-star rating.

UNC Health Wayne has announced the implementation of a Nurse Residency program based on the Vizient and American Association of Colleges of Nursing (Vizient/AACN) Nurse Residency Program™. The program is designed to ease the transition of newly graduated nurses from the classroom setting to the clinical practice environment to promote quality, safety and reduce turnover rates for first-year nurses. The program will be open to all graduating nurses hired by UNC Health Wayne with licensing from an accredited school. The program takes one year to complete.

UNC Health Wayne has received Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Award;Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll from the American Heart Association for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.
