UNC Health Wayne Undergoes Significant Enhancements in Emergency and Pediatric Services
In our ongoing commitment to continually improve the quality of care provided to our community, UNC Health Wayne is set to undergo significant enhancements in its Emergency Department and Pediatric services.
Beginning December 21st, UNC Health Wayne will partner with WEPPA (Wake Emergency Physicians, PA), a trusted provider to manage our Emergency Department. WEPPA brings more than 26 physicians and 9 PAs and NPs that will join the UNC Health Wayne Team. Additionally, UNC Health Wayne will be opening its new Vertical Emergency Treatment Area, which will help reduce wait times in the Emergency Department and allow us to better meet the needs of our patients.
Beginning December 1st, UNC Health Wayne will no longer be admitting pediatric patients into the hospital. It is important to note that while UNC Health Wayne will no longer accept pediatric admissions, we will offer pediatric emergency care overseen by board-certified emergency medicine physicians in our Emergency Department. The 2-3 pediatric patients per week that have historically required admission, they will be seamlessly transferred to a nearby hospital. We emphasize that UNC Health Wayne remains committed to providing exceptional, quality care, and our UNC Health Physicians Network Pediatricians will now provide post-delivery care.
This decision does not dimmish the importance of pediatrics; rather it aligns with our focus on preventative care. Goldsboro Pediatrics, our trusted primary care provider for pediatrics, has consistently excelled in keeping their patients healthy and out of the hospital.
UNC Health Wayne values the trust of our community and is dedicated to ensuring a smooth transition for our Emergency and Pediatric services. We look forward to the opportunities these changes will bring, and we are committed to continuously improving to ensure the health and well-being of our community.
