Wayne UNC Health Care Earns ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation

American College of Cardiology

Goldsboro, NC, August 4, 2020—The American College of Cardiology (ACC) has recognized Wayne UNC Health Care for its demonstrated expertise and commitment in treating patients with chest pain. The health system recently gained Chest Pain Center Accreditation, following a rigorous onsite evaluation of the team’s ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack.

“Heart disease is a serious health issue here in Wayne County,” said Wayne UNC Health Care President & CEO Janie Jaberg. “This accreditation supports our commitment to healing our community and providing a high standard of care based on industry best practices.”

Hospitals with Chest Pain Accreditation have proven exceptional competency in treating patients with heart attack symptoms. They have streamlined their systems from admission to reevaluation to diagnosis and treatment all the way through to post-discharge care and recommendations and assistance in patient lifestyle changes.

To earn accreditation, Wayne UNC took part in a multi-faceted clinical process involving a gap analysis, examining variances of care, developing an action plan, a rigorous onsite review and monitoring for sustained success. Improved methods and strategies of caring for patients include streamlining processes, implementing guidelines and standards and adopting best practices in the care of patients experiencing signs and symptoms of a heart attack.

Health systems that achieve accreditation meet or exceed an array of stringent criteria and have organized a team of doctors, nurses, clinicians and other administrative staff that support efforts leading to better patient education and improved patient outcomes.
